Course Overview

All testers must complete their MOT annual training and pass an annual assessment between the start of April and the following March each year.

To maintain your testing status for the vehicle classes you test, you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and completing your annual training
  • Recording annual training
  • Passing the annual assessment.

If you test classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 (i.e. motorcycles and cars and other vehicles) you will be required to sit the assessments and training for both types.

What are the changes?

From April 2016 the DVSA will no longer be running the MOT Tester Refresher course. Instead this will be replaced with annual training and assessments that all MOT Testers have to complete.

how will this effect me?

All MOT Testers now have to complete a minimum of 3 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD Training) and pass the open-book exam annually.
All testers must complete the new MOT annual training and annual assessment before the end of March 2017 – Regardless of what their refresher training status is. Failure to do so will affect your MOT Tester status.
