S&B Automotive Academy in partnership with Swindon College provide full-time courses; Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ) Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or Vehicle Refinishing.
S&B Automotive Academy and Swindon College joined together in 2012 to provide full-time courses in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair and Vehicle Refinishing. Swindon College provide the funding for learners to attend a full-time course here at S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol.
With an initial intake of 60-80 learners in 2012, numbers of learners have increased with demand for 5 Light Vehicle and 2 Vehicle Refinishing groups in 2013-14.

The course is aimed at those 16-23 years of age and is designed for learners who would like to become more employable to the motor trade, ready to start an apprenticeship, it combines both practical and theory. The practical training is carried out in our own training workshops. During your study, you will be involved in demonstrations, practical work, theory lessons, computer sessions, tutorials and project work. You will also have the opportunity to gain some work experience.
The qualification is a recognised IMI (Institute of Motor Industry) VRQ including Functional Skills Level 1* in English & Maths.
The VRQ stands for Vocational Related Qualification. Your portfolio would consist of course based assignments, practical assessments and on-line assessments (multi choice on-line examinations).
You may be eligible to complete the next Level VRQ with Functional Skills Level 2* or start an apprenticeship whereby only work based evidence with your employer would be required**.
*Only required if GCSE grades are below C grade.**Attendance at S&B mandatory to complete Functional Skills unless exempt.
There will be a course fee which goes towards the cost of workshop boots, overalls & technical book (issued to learners), qualification registration, course trips and enrichment visits. Financial help may be available and on a case by case basis and is provided via Swindon College.
